The SMARTSmag is composed of student writings produced and refined in the “Jenny Magazine Creative Writing Workshop,” a course taught through the SMARTS program at YSU. The following is the course description:
Jenny Literary Magazine Creative Writing Workshop
(Grades 6-12)
This class meets on Tuesdays from 5-6:15 p.m. on the following dates:
January 18, 25
February 1, 8, 15, 22
March 1, 8, 22, 29
The result of a partnership between SMARTS and Jenny, YSU’s new student-produced literary magazine, this creative writing workshop aims to instill in students the excitement and power found in the art of writing. Under the guidance of YSU Student Literary Arts Association officer Amber Pence, students will explore various forms of poetry and short fiction. Class sessions will include selected readings, journaling, and dynamic workshopping, as well as visits from guest speakers and acclaimed writers in the area. Students will be instructed on the process of submission and publication of their written work. Upon completion of the course, select student writing will be published on this exclusive SMARTS web-page, in collaboration with the SLAA and Jenny Magazine.
